Even with just 1% of the population left alive, approximately 100 million people across the globe could sustain humanity and eventually reconstruct civilization. Although progress would regress significantly, the retained memories of past discoveries like smelting iron into steel and generating electricity provide a monumental advantage for reconstruction. The collective knowledge accumulated over time would empower the survivors to leapfrog the initial stages of civilization building that took thousands of years to achieve in the past.
