Great founders possess three essential qualities: intelligence, passion, and courage. Intelligence and passion are inherent traits, while courage is a choice that requires a high pain tolerance. Being a startup founder is not as glamorous as it is often portrayed, with constant rejection and criticism being a significant part of the journey. Founders must endure countless 'no' responses and negative feedback while maintaining a positive facade. Despite the financial risks, many founders are driven by an irrational need to create something new and build for themselves. Referencing checking founders proves to be challenging, as the traditional method of contacting previous bosses may reveal them to be rebellious or disobedient. The ideal reference for a founder is someone who previously worked under them and is eager to work with them again.
