Understanding Emulsifiers, Surfactants, and Their Effects on Skin and Oral Health

Emulsifiers help water and oil mix, while surfactants remove fats and lipid-based debris efficiently. Surfactants can break down particles, causing a lot of damage if used excessively. Traditionally, soaps made from saponified oils are less harsh compared to synthetic surfactants like sodium laurel sulfate, which can denature proteins and disrupt skin and oral barriers. Continuous disruption of the skin barrier by these chemicals can lead to allergic reactions, eczema, rosacea, and various skin conditions.
