You can train yourself to experience determination by viewing your heart pounding as a sign of strength. An example is given about a 12-year-old girl testing for a black belt in karate against larger boys. Her sensei tells her to get her butterflies flying in formation, changing the meaning of fear to arousal. Emotions are created by giving meaning to affective feelings, and you have control over how you do that. Changing the physical state or learning to make more categories can create a different response. Emotions become a source of wisdom and a cue to take action.
