The Myth of Accountability in Goal Pursuit

Positive feedback from others when announcing a goal can activate reward and motivation systems in the brain, but this motivation quickly diminishes, reducing the likelihood of achieving the goal. This is known as the 'Accountability Fallacy.' While accountability is essential for personal growth, sharing goals before taking action can hinder progress as the positive feedback may reduce motivation to consistently pursue the goal and achieve it.
