Formation Drift in Battle

In a battle formation of hoplites with lines facing each other, there is a tendency for the formation to drift to the right. This occurs as soldiers unconsciously or consciously move slightly to the right, seeking the protection of the shield of the person next to them. This movement creates a ripple effect along the entire line, causing the formation to shift collectively to the right.
