NOTE

The Impact of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fats on Health

A diet rich in antioxidants can have numerous benefits for overall health. Polyunsaturated fats, when combined with an antioxidant adequate diet, can positively impact cardiometabolic risk factors such as inflammation, cholesterol, and blood clotting. Omega-3 fatty acids specifically have an anti-thrombotic action, promoting heart health and vascular function. These fatty acids also affect various tissues like adipose tissue and the liver, promoting metabolic homeostasis and decreasing triglyceride synthesis. However, an excessive intake of omega-6s can limit the beneficial effects of omega-3s. Therefore, a strategy that reduces omega-6 intake and increases omega-3 intake can maximize these health benefits.
