Chalk can be mined or made from seawater, with pharmaceutical-grade chalk being used as a binding agent in medicines. This grade is 99.8% magnesium carbonate with minimal impurities. Recreational-grade chalk, containing contaminants, acts as a dry lubricant on the skin, reducing grip effectiveness when more chalk is applied. These contaminants do not enhance chalk performance.
