Law and Justice: A Distinction

Law and justice are fundamentally different concepts; the law can be misused without fulfilling true justice. A legal system can achieve compliance with its requirements while still allowing for outcomes that are unjust. For example, in Islamic law, the requirement of four reliable witnesses can be met even if those witnesses conspire to falsely accuse an innocent person, demonstrating a scenario where the legal process is followed but justice is not achieved. Ideally, law should serve justice, but it often stands apart, highlighting the complexity of ensuring fair outcomes.
