Scientific research is published in reputable journals after going through an editorial and peer review process, with American universities having a rigorous process for new professors to climb the ladder through their research publications. However, professors often complain about the pressure to publish papers, leading to concerns about the meaningfulness of the research. Despite the increasing number of papers published each year, there is a lack of proportional scientific progress, as noted by economist Robert Gordon. The replication crisis, highlighted by a Stanford professor in 2005, revealed that a significant portion of published research results are not replicable when retested, indicating a quality control challenge in scientific research.
