Success in challenging fields largely depends on commitment over time. The initial odds of anyone succeeding in a venture, such as becoming a professional novelist, are slim—approximately one in a thousand. However, if an individual is willing to invest a decade of dedicated effort, their chances of success dramatically increase, possibly to one in three. This highlights a dual perspective: while the journey may take longer than anticipated, the extended timeline acts as a filter, eliminating the vast majority of competitors and significantly improving the odds for those who endure.
