Dear Hank & John
Mars' Crust
We used to think that Mars is crust was like just a uniform basalt. But researchers studying data from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter have found feldspar, which is usually found in silica rich lava as opposed to basaltic flows. And that means that the crust might not have been formed by the cooling of one giant ocean of magma. Instead, it might have formed in multiple different phases. That's going to take a lot more work to figure out what exactly is going on with Mars's crust.
