A unique form of blocking was employed, targeting app stores rather than internet infrastructure, compelling Google and Apple to remove certain applications. Notably, in Brazil during 2015-2016, four attempts were made to block WhatsApp due to misunderstandings by the judiciary about the company's inability to control user message content amidst ongoing debates surrounding end-to-end encryption. These blocking orders were eventually suspended by the Supreme Court, which is still deliberating on two lawsuits challenging the blocks, highlighting the complexities of legal interpretations and the slow judicial process as the cases remain unresolved after several years.
