The Evolutionary Argument for Social Connection

Social connections act as a cure for various health issues such as immunity, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and neurodegeneration. Just like exercise reduces the risk of illnesses, social connection serves a similar purpose, backed by strong evolutionary arguments. In prehistory, living in a dangerous natural environment necessitated solid alliances with others for safety from predators or hostile groups. Exclusion or weak ties posed a danger, triggering a warning signal in the body to address the issue. Loneliness is distressing as it signifies insecure relationships putting physical safety at risk.
