The Problem With Depression
Depression is not simply a chemical imbalance. Contrary to popular belief, measuring serotonin or norepinephrine levels in the brain does not provide an accurate indication of depression. Most people with depression do not show any significant abnormalities in brain chemicals. Current research suggests that the way different areas of the brain communicate with each other may play a more important role. It is evident that the traditional notion of chemical imbalance does not align with the available data.
