Escaping the Porn Trap | Think Ahead | Part 2

Life.Church with Craig Groeschel

NOTE

The Cycle of Trigger, Rationalization, and Shame

When you feel excited and desire something, your brain rationalizes it to justify the behavior. If you do not break this cycle, you will act out on your desires. Following the action, you experience a wave of shame, especially if you are a Christian, leading to conflicting feelings of desire and shame. The devil may try to minimize the behavior before it happens, but afterwards, intensify feelings of guilt and worthlessness. There is an internal conflict between the enjoyment of the act and the subsequent feelings of shame. In this situation, the devil may persuade you to keep it a secret, leading to a sense of isolation and inability to be used by God.
