Challenges with Mempool and Coin-Joint Transactions
The mempool's increasing fees pose a challenge for older coin-joint transactions with low fees, causing delays in confirmation and difficulty in bumping fee rates. The algorithm for fee bumping does not account for multiple branches in a coin joint, making fee recognition by miners ineffective. Additionally, replacing transactions for large coin joints with high fees is extremely complex due to the hefty cost of block space required. As a result, there is currently no secure and consistent method to bump the fee rate or replace existing coin-joint transactions, leading to significant challenges in the Bitcoin network.
