Understanding the Limits of AI Chatbots

The fundamental problem with AI chatbots is that we don't fully understand why they work well or where they fail. While we can predict their probable outcomes, the underlying math is not fully understood. This is similar to many areas in physics, chemistry, and biology where we have working approximations but not complete understanding. Although there are extensive efforts to comprehend the reasons behind AI chatbots' hallucinations and inaccuracies, we currently lack a full understanding. The reason behind AI chatbots' tendency to 'hallucinate' lies in the fact that they are simply predicting the next word based on training data, and can be easily fooled in various ways.
