The electric grid is comprised of three major interconnections: East, Texas, and West. These interconnections cannot be directly connected due to different phases and are managed by RTOs and ISOs. RTOs oversee multiple states while ISOs focus at the state level, ensuring grid reliability by balancing the grid, enabling efficient markets, and coordinating infrastructure. In regulated markets, there is top-down control by the government.
