NOTE

The Bias of Naive Realism and Cognitive Dissonance

The human mind exhibits a universal bias of believing in its own unbiased nature while attributing biases to others. This phenomenon, known as naive realism, leads individuals to struggle with accepting evidence that challenges their deeply-held beliefs, especially when those beliefs are integral to their self-concept. Cognitive dissonance theory highlights that individuals find it incredibly challenging to admit they were wrong and change their minds, particularly when their beliefs are closely tied to their identity. This innate tendency to resist changing one's views is not only a personal trait but also serves to bind individuals to their social groups, communities, and tribes.
