In the 1820s, Mexico invited Anglos like Moses and Stephen Austin to create a barrier between themselves and the Comanches. The Anglos eventually separated from Mexico, leading to Texas's revolution and statehood in 1846. The disagreement over the southern boundary of Texas sparked the Mexican-American War, resulting in the United States acquiring the southwest territory up to the California coast.
