In the 50s and 60s, methamphetamine was widely available and even prescribed to middle-aged women. Amphetamines were also easily accessible, with sports teams and cyclists using them. They weren't considered controversial and were seen as beneficial by some politicians. This widespread use of drugs is often overlooked.
