The Proof with Simon Hill

NOTE

How Does the Cold Water Change the Physiology of the Body?

Going into cold water activates the sympathetic nervous system and stress response, leading to an increase in noradrenaline and the release of stress hormones. This activation helps the body become alert and provides fuel for fight or flight. Although this stress response is not needed in modern society, short-term activation can be healthy. Cold water immersion also activates the diving response, which relaxes the rest and digest system and increases neurotransmitters for mental balance. This includes serotonin for balance and dopamine for drive and motivation. The effects of cold water immersion can last for hours.
