NOTE

The Evolution from Special to General Relativity

The transition from special to general relativity involved Einstein's realization in 1905 of removing the concept of ether and introducing the idea of the speed of light as a maximum. However, it was Minkowski in 1907 who elegantly blended space and time into spacetime. Originally, Einstein was skeptical of this concept, viewing it as over formalization, but later recognized its significance, leading to the idea of spacetime having properties and being curved, allowing him to solve the gravity problem. This realization marked the birth of general relativity, involving the crucial contribution of a mathematician, highlighting the interplay between physics and mathematics.
