NOTE

Preserving Authenticity Over Conformity

In the late 1970s, consultants advised Hermes to emulate Gucci by closing its Atelier, outsourcing production, increasing products and SKUs, lowering prices, and making products more accessible. This recommendation went against Hermes' ethos. Today, Hermes has a policy of not hiring consultants, as seen in its luxury strategy. The lesson learned is to preserve authenticity and uniqueness, rather than conform to industry norms and lose what makes a brand special.
