Allies, Misnomers and Near Defeat

The Grenadier guards were named after defeating Napoleon's Imperial Guard, although they actually faced the Chasirs. The British army's reluctance to rename them caused a misnomer. During the Battle, the Makelands guards and a mix of other troops faced the Imperial Guard attacks, testing the Anglo-Allied coalition to its limits. When Hanoverian troops retreated, British light cavalry stepped in, almost preventing the coalition from crumbling. Wellington acknowledged the close call. The British Army's success wasn't solely its own; it was aided by the Prussians and the favorable weather.
