Improving Sleep and Addressing Insomnia

  • To reduce recurring nightmares, visualize the nightmare with a positive ending during the day.
  • For insomnia, try the paradoxical approach: keep your eyes open to tire yourself into sleep.
  • Address anxieties by writing them down before bed.
  • Distract your mind from worries with activities like counting backwards from 100 by threes or engaging in fantasy worlds.
  • If you’re awake for more than 10 minutes, get out of bed and do something non-stimulating but physical, like adult coloring books, then return to bed.
