Gross Imbalance of Power Maintains Peace

Deterrence involves a diplomatic, economic, and informational element, but it relies on the foundation of hard power. The key to peace is maintaining a gross imbalance of power, not a balance. Asymmetric weapons that are relatively cheap and plentiful can be vital in threatening an aggressor effectively. The old military rule of thumb suggests that three times more force is needed to take a position than to defend it. By focusing on defending Taiwan with a capable defense industrial base and asymmetric weapons, the goal is to deter potential aggressors like Xi Jinping by making any attempt not worth it.
