The problems that we have with our social media platforms are not problems with the media or the technology but they're problems with the political and economic mode of production under which they're being developed. It's capitalism that's making us antisocial it's capitalism and neoliberal capitalism in particular with making us competitive and individualistic, he says. The troll as an individual who's trying to build their reputation by tarnishing the reputation of other people is something that is very much a product of the cultural logic of neoliberal capitalism for him.
