To cultivate good habits, ensure that behaviors are obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying. While all four elements are not required simultaneously, their presence increases the likelihood of forming lasting habits. Conversely, to break a bad habit, invert these principles: make cues invisible by reducing exposure, render the behavior unattractive, increase friction to make it more difficult, and add immediate consequences to make it unsatisfying. This fourfold framework effectively guides the process of changing habits.
