Distinction and Confusion

The water called bunn-en and stones deep in the valley are examples of things that are present but useless. Being lost or hidden causes things, and even oneself, to become useless. The term balal signifies when things are lost in something else, becoming inseparable and mixed together. This concept is reflected in the mixing of religious traditions into one chaotic hodgepodge by various societies. In contrast, the Quran is referred to as forkan, meaning separation, symbolizing the act of purifying by separating the unclean from the clean. Thus, balal represents confusion through mixture, while forkan signifies clarity and distinction through separation and purification.
