NOTE

Defining AGI: Smarter Than Average, Not Elite

Predictions currently suggest that artificial general intelligence (AGI) could be achieved by 2026, despite the absence of fully developed safety mechanisms. There is a shift in how AGI is defined, moving from being seen as a system that mimics human capabilities across various domains to being equated with superintelligence. The traditional definition emphasized a system capable of performing any task that a human could, whereas recent discussions may blur the lines with superintelligence, which exceeds human capability in all areas. Under a broader interpretation, some systems may already perform better than the average human across common tasks. However, it is acknowledged that they do not surpass elite human performance in specialized domains.
