203. Love is a Law, not a Reward — Adam Miller at Restore

Faith Matters

NOTE

The Unconditional Commandment to Love

The commandment to make oneself perfectly lovable does not exist in any scripture or delivered by any prophet. God never gave a commandment to be perfectly lovable, so it is impossible to keep or break this imaginary commandment. Instead, there is only the unconditional commandment to love, to love God with all one's heart and to join God in the hard work of loving others. Love is a law, not a reward, and it cannot be deserved. Love is always a commandment to be obeyed, not a reward to be earned. Love is a verb, a work that requires participation, not perfection. This is the hidden secret of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
