Extracting Semantics and Optimizing Query Engines

The speaker's PhD dissertation focused on integrating relational databases with the semantic web. The work involved extracting semantics from relational data to automatically generate a graph and extracting meaning from database schemas. Additionally, the speaker delved into virtualization by working on query engines, defining ontologies, creating mappings, rules, and optimizing query rewriting processes. The software deliverable from this work was a system called ultra rep, which was commercialized in 2012-2013 and later acquired by data.world.
