NOTE

Have Healthy Responses to Your Emotional Experiences

The most psychologically healthy thing to do is to accept all emotional experiences, whether they feel good or bad. Acceptance means not fighting, resisting, avoiding, denying, or suppressing emotions. This applies to both positive and negative emotions. There's no such thing as a good or bad emotion, only good and bad responses to emotions. For example, responding to joy by indulging in excessive drinking or developing a sense of entitlement is unhealthy. Trying to stop feeling bad can actually make the situation worse, as it leads to distraction and deeper negative emotions. It's important to find a way to respond well despite feeling bad, as resisting emotions can lead to a negative spiral.
