The Power of Social Movements in Creating Transformative Change

Diagnosis from a doctor may not lead to behavior change. Transformation requires the power of social movements throughout history that have instigated significant change. Movements like civil rights, women's suffrage, abolition, gay rights, and Black Lives Matter have changed societies rapidly. To combat the influence of powerful industries like fossil fuels, a strong, disruptive, and extensive social movement is required to reclaim control from governments. Incremental policies are insufficient compared to the impact of social movements that can pressure governments by disrupting normal functioning. Polite activism is no longer effective; instead, it is time to engage in massive, impactful movements to drive change effectively.
