Obtaining rock samples on an uninhabited island posed challenges due to the sheer cliffs formed by lava, making access difficult and dangerous. Professional climbers were essential to assist in getting fresh rock pieces. The rocks were crumbly and hazardous while climbing, with large chunks falling off easily. Finally, with the help of a climber, a scientist managed to extract a piece of rock containing primordial water locked in a glass-like substance.
