Transforming High Schooling through Competency-Based Learning
Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC) aims to revolutionize high schooling through a student-centered competency-based learning model focused on interdisciplinary, interactive, place-based, experiential, and project-based learning. Despite the popularity and success of such models globally, they are not scaling due to the lack of suitable infrastructure for credentialing and crediting this form of learning. The traditional education system's reliance on credit hours and Carnegie units, based on time spent in a classroom rather than actual learning, hinders the widespread adoption of innovative learning approaches. MTC's mission is to address this gap by advocating for a shift towards skill development over memorization of academic content, ensuring students engage meaningfully in their education and are adequately prepared for the future.
