I wasn't learning much physics and it wasn't rigorous. Then Edward Witten came along as my advisor. He was amazing at math and physics, viewing them harmoniously. Instead of formalism, he saw Feynman diagrams as particles in action. His perspective on physics gave a bigger picture and helped me appreciate the interconnections between ideas. Math and physics go hand in hand.
