The Three Types of Loneliness: Intimate, Relational, and Collective
Loneliness can come in three forms: intimate loneliness, which is the absence of a close confidant; relational loneliness, the lack of friendships and social activities; and collective loneliness, the absence of identity with a common group. To combat the dangers of loneliness, we need to cultivate all three types of connections: intimate friendships, social relationships, and a sense of belonging to a community.
