The Mycenaean civilization marked the peak of Mycenaean culture and its eventual decline. The decipherment of Linear B script revealed that the Mycenaeans spoke an archaic form of Greek. The origins of the Mycenaeans remain mysterious, with speculations about migration around 2000 BC. Significant changes around 1650-1600 BC included new burial practices for the elite with elaborate tombs and enormous wealth. The Mycenaean aristocracy was characterized by physical strength, love for gold, weapons, and exotic goods, as shown by their burial artifacts.
