Medication as a Last Resort in PTSD Treatment
Medications are generally less effective than therapy in treating PTSD, yet patient preference should guide treatment decisions. While sertraline and paroxetine are FDA-approved SSRIs, their effectiveness and side effects raise concerns. Sertraline has only shown efficacy in certain populations, while paroxetine is associated with significant withdrawal issues and adverse effects. Fluoxetine, also known as Prozac, may be a preferable SSRIs option for those needing medication.
