Competition in team sports for some individuals can be driven by the desire to gain attention and capitalize on their talent for sponsorship deals. Throughout history, athletes have monetized their athleticism through sponsorships. However, team sports played by men and women perceive competition differently. Male-male competition is explicit, follows known rules, is public, and can have an audience, making cheating more visible. On the other hand, female-female competition is implicit, covert, and often denied by those involved.
