The Decline of Average Time Spent on a Single Task

A research conducted by information science professor, Gloria Mark, at the University of California shows that the average time spent on a single task by people has decreased to about 47 seconds from 2.5 minutes in 2004. Multitasking is a myth and we can only focus on one thing at a time. When we switch tasks, we have to mentally erase what we have on our 'internal whiteboard' and write all new information about the new task, leaving a residue in our minds.
