Ep 336: Shruti Rajagopalan Dives Into Delimitation

The Seen and the Unseen - hosted by Amit Varma

NOTE

Proper Representation and Misconceptions

The delimitation order in 2008 resulted in a situation where some groups, like the scheduled tribes, were underrepresented in constituencies. The malapportionment was initially at five to six seats, and after the 2008 order, it was still at four seats less than they should have had. Another group with higher fertility rates, Muslims, is often subject to misconceptions about outnumbering Hindus due to their fertility rates. However, it's crucial to note that the Hindu population base is six to seven times larger than the Muslim population base, which dispels the misinformation.
