The Yes-damn Effect
The Yes-damn effect describes the phenomenon of agreeing to commitments in the present that lead to being overcommitted in the future. It often happens due to the difficulty in saying no, fear of hurting someone's feelings, or the initial excitement of the opportunity. This leads to a situation where the future obligations are not as appealing when they need to be fulfilled. The key to overcoming this effect is to involve the future self in decision-making regarding commitments, possibly through a letter-writing process.
