NOTE

Radical Beliefs of Early Christians

Early Christians were considered weird and a threat by Romans because they practiced a heart religion focused on loving devotion to God rather than fear. They gathered in homes instead of temples and rejected societal hierarchies, declaring all believers as equals. Christians did not offer sacrifices like the Romans did to appease gods, which was perceived as a threat to the Roman religious structure. Romans accepted individual beliefs but required participation in cultic activities; failure to do so was seen as a threat to the entire society.
