The Challenges of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) are genetically inherited disorders of the connective tissue, leading to symptoms throughout the body. These symptoms include pain, fatigue, GI discomfort, autoimmune diseases, inflammation, mast cell activation syndrome, joint dislocations, sympathetic overdrive, non-restorative sleep, and joint pain. Patients with HSD and EDS have bodies that are constantly working against gravity to maintain structural integrity and adequate blood flow to all organs, due to the floppiness of their tissues. The hypermobility or laxity of the connective tissue is a key feature used in diagnosing these complex conditions.
