The Importance of Active and Passive Spirituality in Formation and Discipleship

Active spirituality in formation and discipleship is crucial for progression, emphasizing the need for intentional practices like Sabbath, prayer, scripture reading, living in community, serving the poor, bearing witness to the gospel, and therapy to move from spiritual stagnation to maturity. However, reaching a point of deep transformation requires passive spirituality to address ingrained emotional attachments that hinder growth and lead to self-absorption. These emotional programs for happiness, often referred to as idols or attachments, are at the core of our problems as they compel us to hurt or manipulate others to fulfill our perceived needs for happiness and peace.
