NOTE

Identifying Vestibular Migraine in Dizzy Patients

Vestibular migraine can often mimic the symptoms of Meniere's disease, such as low to mid-frequency sensory neural hearing loss, episodic vertigo lasting from 20 minutes to 12 hours, and associated tinnitus. Although Meniere's disease is rare, affecting about 1 in 5000 individuals annually, vestibular migraine is more common, especially in women between puberty and menopause, with 30% of women meeting diagnostic criteria for migraine. It's crucial to take a headache history from any dizzy patient, as vestibular migraine can manifest with similar symptoms and is more prevalent than Meniere's disease.
